Warsaw lives under the yoke of imperial Russian tsardom, with its inhabitants representing a diverse group of different ancestries, views, and beliefs, often with conflicting interests. From Russian soldiers to Jewish merchants and Polish townspeople, the city is a bustling metropolis where one can attend breathtaking parties with high society and later face the dangers of dark alleys in the Praga district. It is a city of great hopes and dreams on one hand, and dark desires on the other.
A thaumaturge bears both a gift and a burden. This is true for Wiktor Szulski, the game’s titular protagonist, who is drawn back to the tumultuous streets of 20th-century Warsaw due to family matters. The gift of thaumaturgy is intertwined with family legacy, passed down through generations. This mystical inheritance significantly shapes Wiktor’s journey, which revolves around the pursuit of unearthly entities and their hosts. As only a thaumaturge can tame these ethereal entities—known to a select few as Salutors—Wiktor utilizes their mystical abilities to uncover secrets hidden within the human soul and communicate with the Darkness. No one understands the weight of personal demons quite like Wiktor.
